Mel aka Tall Mom put together another virtual race to go along with her Marathon for the Cure fundraising. This time around it was a 5K to be run on 5/5. My life made a few other plans, so I had to run it this morning instead. No matter! I still got it done and OH BOY am I pleased with the results.
Let me start with getting up this morning: last night I fell asleep pretty quickly, but it wasn’t quite enough sleep. My alarm sounded at 5am, and it took me a few minutes to register what was going on. I rolled over and sort of stared off into space until about 5:10; “Do I want to run? Oh but my bed is so comfy… but if I stay here, I’ll just be awake and regret it.” I finally pulled myself out of bed and laced up.
My pace has been so much stronger lately. I’m not sure if my new lighter shoes have anything to do with it, but I’ll take it! I started off great, mile 1 clocked in at 8:59. So far so good. Out of nowhere, I just run out of gas. 2.1 miles to go and I’m running on fumes. Fuuuuuuudgecicles. I took a walk break for a few seconds then decided to just go for it and finish the distance.
That. HURT.
A stitch formed in my side, my lungs burned, and the wind was working against me. That last part has nothing to do with my body but dammit I’m mad at the wind. Mile 2: 9:26 (with ~30 seconds of walking).
Time for mile 3. I don’t want to I don’t want to it hurts okay I’ll do it. My heart is completely crazy at this point. 8:51.
1/10 of a mile to go just KICK IT UP. Boom, 48 seconds.
Final time: 28:06
I PRed, baby!
It was painful and my IT band is currently hatin’ on me. But I’m so happy to have that time under my belt.
Yeah, listen to the panda, IT band. Showdown tomorrow morning. Same time, same place. It’s onnnnnnn.

Great job but don’t push it too hard. I am living proof of what pushing too hard can do.
Thanks :) I don’t normally push that hard, and I take walk breaks as needed. But I reeeeally wanted to PR, haha.
Great job on the 5k! I knew you had the speed in you!! The 5ks do hurt but it is worth it in the end!
Ha, that’s awesome! Congrats! It feels sooo good to set a new PR… although only afterward!
Well done for running a personal record! And isn’t great that you can share it here?
Wow a PR!! Congrats and thanks for participating!!
